'A man who dares to waste one hour of time has not discovered the value of life.' -- Charles Darwin (1808 - 1882)

Dialysis, especially hemodialysis, is often considered to consume a large amount of time. And especially to outsiders the time spent at the dialysis center often appears to be as time wasted. For sure, hemodialysis does not happen in a blink of an eye - but how significant is its impact on a weekly time budget really?
As shown below, we are all provided with 168 hours (h) in a 7-day week. Assuming a sleep time of 7h per day, a healthy human is left with 119h (or about 71%) of wake-time per week.

How about a hemodialysis patient?
Dialysis usually takes about 5h all-in-all per session. Considering three sessions per week, we are left with 104h of wake-time - a reduction of about 12.6% versus a healthy subject. Not insignificant - but also not too bad. Clearly, the glass is still more than half full!
