The Fun of Wall Climbing

Keeping Active - Part 2 of 4.

Although not too high on my agenda until now, I always enjoyed the occasional opportunity to go rock or wall climbing. Learning about a nearby wall climbing center, I took (together with my daughter) the opportunity despite not being a fan of heights.

Wall climbing (April 2023)

As always, it took a moment to get used to the gear and atmosphere in the hall but thanks to the staff we had a great time and managed to climb four routes without major problem, except a growing tiredness in arms and legs. So, when attempting to climb route 5, my arms and legs felt more like jelly, and I decided to call it a day - with the intention to come back soon as there are many challenges waiting to be conquered.

As climbing mainly depends on the strength of your legs, there is no need to worry too much about your hemodialysis access arm. I at least encountered no problems but made it a point to cover my AVF with two layers of elastic bandage to be on the safe side and to avoid accidental scratches or bruises. When in doubt, just ask your health care provider for his/her opinion.

Happy climbing!
